Dear MBA Community,

The MBA remains committed to ensure we can deliver any and all programs safely and with input from all individuals involved.  In many circumstances it can take time to gather the best information available.  Events in our world are currently evolving quickly, and of course many people are wondering about the MBA sponsored events that are scheduled over the next few months.

We are sending you the following updates as a result of some recent developments in responses to the COVID-19 virus.  Travel, and large group gatherings are being restricted in many areas across Canada and organizers at many levels are being encouraged to practice safety and prudency measures in response to reducing the spread of the virus.  We are sure you are anxious to know more, and so are we.  The organizers, volunteers, and band directors are in discussions regularly, and we will keep you informed as plans develop.  Several facilities have been closed to gatherings, travel is being restricted, and school divisions plans are being updated daily.  The MBA have the following two announcements at this time:

ONE:  Winnipeg’s Classic 107 Level One Band Festival

The MBA Executive, and Festival Chairs in response to the ongoing COVID-19 health crisis, has made the difficult decision to cancel the Classic 107 Level One Band festivals scheduled for April 21-22 in Brandon and April 28-May 1 in Winnipeg.  The MBA will automatically carry forward all registration fees and apply them to next year’s Level One Band Festivals.  Further details can be expected shortly.

TWO:  Manitoba Junior and Intermediate Honour Bands

The MBA Executive and Honour Band Chairs are still in discussion about the status of this year’s Honour Band programs scheduled for early May.  The MBA is committed to ensuring the health and well-being of all participants. A further announcement can be expected shortly.

Please know that the leadership and volunteers in the Manitoba Band Association are working hard to make the right decisions for our community, keeping the well-being and best interests of our young Manitoba musicians at the forefront at all times. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we work within these unprecedented circumstances.

Cheri Foster

MBA President
