Feminist AF Marching Band
c/o Jacquie Nicholson jacquie_nicholson@yahoo.ca
Rehearsals are typically in a backyard in the West End in the summer months, or at the First Lutheran Church (580 Victor Street) in the winter. Dates and times vary based on members' availability.
The Feminist AF Marching Band is Winnipeg's pro-choice community band! We perform throughout the summer months at protests, Pride parades, picket lines, and other community events. We also raise money for Action Canada for Sexual Health and Rights, an organization that works to improve access to abortion care across Canada.
We are open to musicians of all skill levels and are very beginner friendly. We rehearse about once or twice a month and usually play 6-8 gigs between May and October each year. Band members must be 18+ or have a parent or guardian willing to accompany them to all rehearsals and performances. Other than that, our only requirements are a commitment to social justice and having fun! Please contact us with any questions!
Find us on Facebook at FAF Marching Band or on Instagram @thefafmarchingband

Friday Morning Band
c/o Ray McClelland rmcclelland@mymts.net
The Friday Morning Concert Band was created in 2014 as a drop-in band supporting seniors who wished to retain or rekindle their musical skills. Between 25 and 30 participants simply came to practices when they could and paid a small fee to help pay for the hall rental. Unique to Canada, the band was (and continues to be) the only concert band that rehearses on a weekday morning … in our case Friday morning … thus our name.
In addition to performing concerts annually at many senior residences in Winnipeg, the band has played outdoor concerts in Carman, Manitoba as well as at the Winnipeg Forks and Coronation Park. One year the FMCB had the honour of playing in the Legislative Building as part of their New Year’s open-house. In recent years, in the spirit of giving back to the community, the band has sponsored and financed two fundraising concerts which provided financial support to the Canada-Ukraine Foundation and Winnipeg’s Salvation Army.
Even though the band was forced to shut down for 2 years during the Covid setback, it has successfully rebounded with a current all-time high of 50 members.
Now 11 years after the band’s creation, the original goal to have fun playing and sharing music remains strong.

* Westwood Community Band
c/o Sherry Aubin saubin@hotmail.com
Rehearsals: Thursdays at John Taylor Collegiate 7:15 PM
In 1980, the band director of Sansome School challenged the parents of his band students to form their own group, with the purpose of leading by example. A number of these parents responded and their on-going dedication, boosted by a steady input of new members, has blossomed into the Westwood Community Band. The Band’s objectives are to play good music and offer musical entertainment to the wider community. The Band welcomes adults, beginners through to accomplished musicians, who play woodwind, brass, or percussion instruments. We practice from September – June, Thursday nights at John Taylor Collegiate.
