Honour Band Attendance Policy
Complete attendance at all sectionals, rehearsals and the performance as listed below is mandatory for acceptance into the MBA Honour Bands. Please check your calendar before submitting your audition.

Bursaries
Long & McQuade Musical Instruments is proudly supporting participants with bursaries so those who face barriers can participate in the Manitoba Band Association Honour Bands. Further details are included in the Honour Band Audition Form.
Rural Musicians
Participants whose principal residence is 200km or further from Winnipeg may choose to participate in the Sectional Rehearsal via Zoom. All other rehearsals and concert must be attended in person.
Travel subsidies are available for participants whose principal residence is 200km or further from Winnipeg.

U Manitoba Parking Details
Bussing, carpooling, or a drop-off are encouraged.
On weekdays, between 7:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., paid visitor parking is restricted to meters, Park & Pay areas and the University Parkade.
Parking lots AC, ACW, D, and H are closest to Desautels Faculty of Music and Desautels Concert Hall. Parking fees range from $2.50 - $4.50 per hour.
Lots SD East or SD West are least expensive at $2.00/2 hours. Please allow walking time (about 20 minutes) from these lots (near University Stadium) to Desautels Faculty of Music.
Weekend, holiday and evening parking (after 4:30 pm), is free in most lots.

Audition Information

Masterclasses for most instruments have been recorded and posted on the MBA YouTube channel.
Euphoniums - please use the Trombone video as a reference recording.
String Basses - please use the Tuba video as a reference recording.
Revised Audition Rules & Guidelines
Audition Scales for all instruments including percussion
Etude Errata:
Note: The listening committee will be made aware of these errata, and will be instructed not to penalize students who are not aware of these errata.
Bassoon:
Etude #1 (Andante): measure 15 should read G - A natural - B natural
Etude #2 (Allegretto): Please do not repeat.
Tuba:
Etude #1 (Allegro Moderato): Please omit the "str bass solo" beginning at pick up to m. 10. Resume playing at pick up to letter A (m. 18). Please do not count these bars as rests, simply skip them and move on.
Percussion:
Mallet etudes: Please choose 1 of the 2 mallet etudes provided; if choosing the 1st etude (full page, with a repeat, but is numbered as #2), please take the 2nd ending only - do not repeat.
Timpani etude: There is a key signature change at the Allegro (measure 15). New key is A minor (no sharps or flats)
